Summary:
Some of the 28 or so specimens collected by Frederick Andrews in the Gawler Ranges, most if not all in the early 1870s. Frederick Waterhouse, the Director of the South Australian Museum, used the specimens to sell or trade and only two remain in the museum today. Above, from the left: ventral views of Australian Museum specimens A.9309, A.17831 and A.17832, the latter one of the few with the actual collection date and location – Gawler Ranges, 12 November 1872. Opposite page (top), from the left: lateral, dorsal and ventral views of Australian Museum specimen A.9308; (bottom), from the left: HLW.55, one of the specimens from Museum Victoria from which feathers were likely removed for the Sidney Jackson scam (see p. 222) and ventral and dorsal views of SAMA B.8118, one of the two remaining specimens in the South Australian Museum.
