Summary:
‘Fire-tail’ bees. (a) Without close examination under a microscope, this ‘fire-tail’ bee could easily be misidentified as one of several species in different subgenera of Leioproctus. It is an undescribed Leioproctus species from WA. Photo: Fred and Jean Hort. (b) Female of Ctenocolletes tricolor. The combination of white and orange-red hair bands on the abdomen is found in various other species and genera. (c) male of Megachile (Hackeriapis) sp. Partial, white, tergal hair bands and an apical patch of orange tomentum are characteristic of many Megachile species. Photo: Bryony Fremlin.
