Morphology of some Leioproctus females. (a, b) Labrum of L. (L.) plumosus in anterior and lateral views, respectively, showing transverse ridges; (c) antenna of L. (Alokocolletes) excubitor showing unusually elongated first segment of flagellum (arrowed); (d–f) heads of females of three species adapted for working different kinds of flowers: (d) L. (Cladocerapis) sp. (a Persoonia specialist; median area of clypeus is bare, flat and smooth); (e) L. (Colletopsis) contrarius (a Lechenaultia specialist; stiff, simple hairs on upper face and vertex hold the coarse pollen grains); (f) L. (L.) macmillani (specialises on tubular flowers of Astroloma xerophyllum; head is elongated below compound eyes accommodating a longer proboscis).
