Summary:
The great southern land, Australia – a composite satellite image. Most of the continent’s interior is dry. Human populations are centred on the wetter eastern and southwestern coasts, but carnivorous marsupials are found in great diversity across the entire landmass. Those species occurring in very dry areas have a range of adaptations that help them cope with the inevitable uncertainties in rainfall, and therefore food.
