Summary:
An excellent early print of a Yellow-sided (Short-tailed) Opossum, Monodelphis. The original specimens were presented to British naturalist George Waterhouse after a successful expedition by members of the HMS Beagle. Waterhouse was Curator of the Zoological Society of London’s museum and had been asked to join the voyage but declined. Another young naturalist took part in his stead. This was none other than Charles Darwin, originator of the theory of evolution. Source: Wikimedia Commons.
