Summary:
Representation of the various forms of saying sorry. Both A and B are variations of the submissive posture. In A, the juvenile crouches in front of the adult male (likely to be its father) but chances a glance at him. Whatever this means as a gesture, it works. The male stood there for a while but did not punish and eventually left. The juvenile was allowed to get up and resume activities. In B, two females vocally ‘comment’ in detail on the behaviour of the juvenile and the juvenile stays put motionlessly, eyes averted. Females rarely physically punish their offspring and the kind of submissiveness appeased the females.
