Summary:
Syrinx of an adult magpie. The trachea (tubular) merges seamlessly into the bronchial half rings surrounding the syrinx before they divide into the left and right bronchi leading to the lungs. During exhalation, air proceeds from the lungs to the bronchi, across the membranes of the syrinx and via the trachea across the larynx into the mouth. The syringeal muscles are located just under the sternum (beginning of the rib cage).
