Summary:
Podocarpus spinulosus (image courtesy Peter Woodard). The Spiny-leaf Podocarp, Podocarpus spinulosus, (also known as the Dwarf Plum) is well named for its tendency to form prickly thickets with the sprawling branches rooting readily where they land. The fruit is typical of the Podocarpus, with an edible purple stalk that has been used for making jams and preserves – although the very sharp dagger-like leaves tend to effectively deter a casual harvest.
