Summary:
The Green Ringtail Possum (Pseudocheirus archeri), which is the most primitive member of its genus, is restricted to the north Queensland rainforest. These animals prefer an arboreal habitat, feeding on high fibre leaves particularly those from figs and the occasional fruit. They simply curl up in a fluffy ball on branches in the canopy to sleep. Unfortunately, they are at serious risk from climate change as they cannot cope with long periods of high temperatures, which increase the risk of death from overheating (image courtesy John Elliott, Townsville).
