Summary:
Scrub or Amethystine Pythons (Morelia kinghornii, formerly M. amethystina) favour the tropics from Townsville to Cape York, as well as Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. They are prime hunters of the rainforest mammals (mice, rats, possums, birds, small wallabies), frogs and lizards. While this is Australia’s largest snake, which can grow to 8.5 m, this size is uncommon. Usually around 2.5–3.5 m and, while they are not venomous, they can inflict a nasty bite if stressed.
