Summary:
Consumption of food provided to one free-ranging tawny frogmouth. Note the sharp increase in food intake in the autumn in preparation for winter. Interestingly, the food intake was reduced in winter. This reduction in food intake in July and August (significantly lower in winter than in summer and autumn) was, in this case, not contingent on food availability. The offered food was mostly rejected. Hence, they may eat less not because of food scarcity but because they have physiologically adapted to winter food shortages. The missing data points (February, March, June) correspond to times when the tawny frogmouth could not be located.
