Summary:
Daily food consumption by B. germanica nymphs (A) and adults (B) during development and reproduction, respectively. Both early (2nd) and late (5th) instars feed intensively after the moult, then fast in preparation for the next moult. Daily food intake by adult males is low and constant. Females increase their feeding as their oocytes mature, and decrease food intake after mating and then oviposition. Gravid females carrying oothecae feed little during a three-week period, then increase food intake just before the eggs hatch.
