Summary: 
Plate 16: Thermal imaging captured fine-scale spatial fire behaviour across two landscapes burned under dry conditions (a) and moist (b) conditions in long-term watersheds on the Konza Prairie Long-term Ecological Research Station (Kansas, USA). When fuels were dry, fire burned continuously through shrub islands and smouldered for more than 30 min after the flaming front passed. When fuels were moist, fire burned discontinuously and did not burn through shrub islands, leaving shrub islands relatively untouched by fire. Photograph courtesy of Christine Bielski.
