Summary:
It takes ~20 min for a mistletoe seed to pass through the specialised digestive tract of the Painted Honeyeater. When the bird defecates, the seeds emerge either singly or as a string bound together by a sticky substance which the birds have to peck and wipe to detach from their vent. Assuming the ejected seed attaches to a living branch of a suitable host plant, it has every chance of germinating and forming a new clump of mistletoe.
