Shown is a typical medium format 10.8-m wide sweep plough constructed from three 1.5-m and four 1.7-m wide V-shaped blades that overlap sufficiently to insure weed control while limiting the number of shanks and coulters that can displace residue. This plough advances from early designs like the 1949 Dempster 101 carrier frame (inset) configured with five 0.76-m V-shaped sweep blades mounted with 0.1-m blade overlap and rolling coulters ahead of each plough shank to cut through residue.
