Summary:
GEORGE RAPER Brush Bronzewing Phaps elegans (male). Watercolour, 46.5 × 28.6 cm; c. 1789. Raper had access to more colours than those in the standard naval draughtsman’s paintbox; here he used metallic paint on the wing coverts to indicate the iridescence of the feathers.
