Summary:
JOHN WILLIAM LEWIN White-winged Triller Lalage tricolor. Watercolour, 1800–1810. Lewin was the first professional artist to arrive in the colony as a free man. He hoped to cement his reputation and, although he had sponsors in England and the assistance of an artistic wife, met many frustrations. The Triller was not among the paintings published in the various editions of his Birds of New Holland. BLACKER WOOD COLLECTION, RARE BOOKS AND SPECIAL COLLECTIONS, MCGILL UNIVERSITY LIBRARY, MONTREAL
