Summary:
JOSEPH WOLF Fawn-breasted Bowerbird Chlamydera cerviniventris. Hand-coloured lithograph, 60 × 46.7 cm; 1873. From Daniel Giraud Elliot’s A Monograph of the Paradiseidae, or Birds of Paradise (1873), with some of the finest bird illustrations of the period. Wolf succeeded in showing something of the character and life of his birds – no mean feat given he had never seen most in the wild.
