Summary:
PETE MARSHALL Yellow-billed Spoonbill Platalea flavipes. Pastel, 90 × 60 cm; 2016. Marshall watched the spoonbill as it caught a fish then tossed it into the air with the intention of flipping it in order to swallow it head-first. However, the bird completely failed to re-catch the fish, and its resulting expression prompted the title of the painting – ‘Laughing Spoonbill.’
