Summary:
A painting by Walter Stoneman of famed mammalian taxonomist Michael Rogers Thomas (1858–1929). Thomas preferred as a Christian name ‘Oldfield’, which was his mother’s maiden surname. By middle-age, Thomas had health problems and disliked travel, relying on his extensive network of collectors to deliver him mammalian wonders from all over the world. Thomas described the new species with speed and precision. His knowledge of global mammalian taxonomy became second to none. Source: Natural History Museum.
