Summary:
Vertical cut of the brain showing the nuclei involved in song production. In order to produce vocalisations, different parts of the brain are activated. The high vocal centre processes sounds and passes these on, with several feedback loops, to the motor system to enable the syrinx to produce the sounds. RA (robust nucleus of the archistriatum), HVC (high vocal centre), X (Area X), lMAN (lateral magnocellular nuclei of anterior neostriatum).
