Summary:
The South American ‘Sugar Apple’ (Annona squamosa) is also widely known as ‘Custard Apple’. This fruit merits the distinction of being one of the more delectable of the Annona genus. The aromatic juicy, sweet flesh has an attractive floral fragrance and is a popular tropical flavouring for sherbets and ice cream. However, the fruit retains an astringent character until fully ripe. Only when the dark yellow latex droplets disappear from the fruit skin is it ready for harvest.
