Summary:
Fontainea picrosperma (pictured) is an understorey rainforest tree with a very similar distribution to Hyland’s Blushwood. With rainforest contraction over the millennia the distribution of this tree became restricted to refugial sites, which acted as sanctuaries for its survival. Later, when the forest expanded again due to warmer conditions, this species re-established in fragmented populations in northern Queensland [153].
