Tylophora indica (image courtesy J. M. Garg, efloraofindia). Tylophorine and related alkaloids are present in the Indian medicinal herb, Tylophora indica (Apocynaceae, the Dogbane family). This viny plant, which is known as Indian Ipecac, has long been used as an effective anti-asthmatic remedy (200–400 mg of leaf material, 1–2 mL tincture [147]) – as well as for the treatment of bronchitis, rheumatism and dysentery.
