Summary of recent and projected trends in key global variables. In each case, business-as-usual (RCP8.5, red lines and orange shading) are compared with scenarios (RCP2.6, blue lines and pale blue shading) where deep action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is taken. (A) Global average surface temperature relative to 1986–2005 over the next three centuries; (B) similar but for the period up to 2100; (C) extent of summer sea ice in the Arctic; (D) global mean sea level rise; and (E) changes to global surface pH is the result of ocean acidification.
