Representative frogs of the Wet Tropics of Australia. (A) The Endangered waterfall frog Litoria nannotis (Pelodryadidae), a rainforest-restricted species that experienced dramatic declines of its populations in the late 1980s and early 1990s, disappearing from many sites at high elevations. (B) The rainforest-restricted sharp-snouted day frog Taudactylus acutirostris (Myobatrachidae), which has not been seen since the late 1990s (photograph by Harold Cogger and used with his permission). (C) The green-eyed tree frog Litoria serrata (Pelodryadidae), a rainforest-restricted species that suffered declines but rapidly recovered. (D) The ornate nursery frog Cophixalus ornatus (Microhylidae), a rainforest-restricted species, which, like other microhylids, did not experience declines. (E) The northern stony creek frog Litoria jungguy (Pelodryadidae), which occurs in rainforest and in some other habitats, and which did not experience observable declines. (F) The magnificent brood frog Pseudophryne covacevichae (Myobatrachidae), known from a small area of eucalypt forest near Ravenshoe and is not known to have experienced decline.
