Fig. 13.1. The gastric stomach of the pig. Note the gastric diverticulum: an unusual ‘outpocket’ of the fundus. It is this sort of ‘blind sac’ development that led to the multi-chambered ruminant and camelid stomach. The major regions of the mucosa are the cardiac gland region, the region of proper gastric glands and the pyloric gland region.
