Summary:
In this picture of the carbon cycle, volcanoes and industrial pollution from cities release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. When plants photosynthesise (make their own food from carbon dioxide and sunlight), die and rot, and when sediments and fossil fuels form, the carbon dioxide is locked back up into rocks.
