The figure is organised so that the predicted intensity can be read across to predict flame length. Black lines show the predicted values and the shaded areas around the lines demarcate the 95% confidence intervals of the modelled fireline intensity or flame length. Observed flame lengths and intensities, from experimental managed burns on Calluna-dominated moorland in Scotland between spring of 2006 and autumn of 2009, are shown as circles.
