Summary:
Massive sediment and ash deposits in streams following the 2019–20 ‘Black Summer’ bushfires in East Gippsland. High rainfall in the these severely burnt forests washed this material into stream channels, choking downstream waterways with silt and ash, burying shelter sites of riverine frogs, filling egg-laying sites in and beside streams, and grossly affecting water quality.
