Summary:
Two early views of Lake George, NSW. Top: Hoddle, R. (1830). South end of Lake George, New South Wales [watercolour on card mount]. In this image the steep western escarpment to the left and the flatter Lake George basin in the centre and right are clearly visible, and the tall dead trees in the far right appear to be in roughly the same position as the ones later mapped on the lake shore below the 1823 flood level. State Library of New South Wales, FL3270989. Bottom: Lake George [wood engraving]. (ca. 1886). From Garran A (1886) Picturesque atlas of Australasia, vol. 1, p. 136. Picturesque Atlas Publishing Co., Sydney. National Library of Australia, nla.obj-1605485403. The dead trees on the lake shore in the foreground were possibly killed by the 1874 flood event.
