Summary:
JOHN MITCHELL CANTLE Laughing Kookaburra Dacelo novaeguineae. Postcard, 8.8 × 13.8 cm; c. 1908. Cantle worked in Sydney as an illustrator and cartoonist. Although he was a less able bird painter, he benefited from the market that Cayley had created for paintings of Australian birds. ‘The Settler’s Clock’ is one of a series of postcards issued by the New South Wales Bookstall Co., showing Australian birds by Cantle and Cayley and flowers by Margaret Flockton.
