Summary:
Traditional capture-mark-recapture (I) does not explicitly estimate density and the extent of abundance estimates is often unknown (II). Spatially explicit capture-recapture uses data on trap locations to estimate animal activity centres (III) which can then be used to estimate a detection function that directly produces unbiased estimates of density (IV).
