Summary: 
LD (r2) versus the physical distance (one million base pairs) between pairs of SNP loci in Pacific herring (Petrou et al. 2021; Allendorf et al. 2022, p. 221). LD (r2) is the square of the correlation coefficient between alleles at the two loci. Nine of the 26 pairs of chromosomes in this species are shown. High LD over long physical distances is present on chromosomes 7, 8, and 15 because of chromosomal inversions that reduce recombination between chromosomes with inverted and standard sequences.
