Summary:
Expedition member A. P. Orr modelling the diving helmet from which the first underwater surveys of the reef were made during the 1928 Great Barrier Reef Expedition. The helmet was made in Plymouth Marine Laboratory based on the designs of one used by A. G. Mayor in Samoa. It was fed by hand-pumped air from a boat at the water surface.
