Summary:
The use of a down-drain with cascade drop structures to reduce reliance on bench drains. The example shown is constructed using rip rap with a geotextile and shotcrete cover. Other cover systems and erosion control systems may also promote the establishment of vegetation. Scouring at the base of the drain is an obvious issue that needs to be considered (source: Geoff Beale and Steve Skidmore).
